TSAC 50th anniversary dive
This is the first of our 50th anniversary celebration events.
Having got in contact with the founder member of our club we discovered that our first official logged dive was at, what is now an inland dive centre, Eccleston Delph (Eccleston Delph – Home – Eccleston Delph (thedelph.com)).
The original dive took place on the 19th February 1973 and, with luck, this fell on a Sunday in 2023. To celebrate this event the clubs committee decided to pay the entry fee for anyone who dived and the team at Delph kindly sorted out memberships for all those diving. In the end 15 club members went for the dip, although the club chair maintained that she would only be doing a maximum of twenty minutes!
Once again luck was on our side and the February weather was dry and reasonably warm so we kitted up and went for a dip. On exit it was great to see our guest of honour waiting for us and being looked after by Jen.
Graeme Campbell (the clubs founder member) and his wife My had driven up for the day. It was interesting to compare notes about equipment. There I was in all my dry suit, compass, torches, thermal kit etc etc, being told about how they made their own neoprene suits, had no buoyancy aids.
After the dive we headed off to The Plough (The Plough – Euxton (theplougheuxton.com)) for a celebratory meal to finish off the day.
Graeme was asked to give us a talk and he reminisced about the origins of TSAC (or Sale as it was then) and then showed us some of his activities from the early days including the investigation of the Royal Oak in Scapa. Off the back of that he is coming to the club to give us a talk on the expedition and show us the video that was made.
It was a great way to start the celebrations and in total 32 of the club attended the event, next up the quiz.
