PREPARING FOR THIS YEARS DIVING

Don’t forget you can ask the DO or TO to run some sessions, (theory and practical).

– There area few worthwhile sessions coming up so check the calander.

– Come along to Capernwray on a training day (or organise your own visit) to check kit and to refresh your skills.

– Come to the pool on a Wednesday night.

– Come down to the JA and chat to members.

Our club has a wealth of experience and enthusiastic members always willing to help out ….. use it and go into 2026 ready, prepared and safe.

Getting ready for dive season involves refreshing skills with pool dives or refresher courses, inspecting and servicing gear (especially BCDs, suits, and regs), improving physical and mental fitness, and planning dives to ensure a safe and enjoyable start to your underwater adventures . Focus on gradual fitness, practicing buoyancy, checking all equipment for wear, and getting any professional servicing done early.

Personal Preparation (You!)

  • Fitness: Start light with swimming, strength (core is key!), and stretching; build up gradually.
  • Skills: Do pool dives to practice buoyancy, finning, mask skills, and emergency procedures.
  • Refreshers: Consider a formal refresher course (like PADI Reactivate) if rusty.
  • Health: Eat well, stay rested, manage stress, and avoid alcohol/drugs before diving.

Gear Preparation (Your Kit)

  • BCD & Suit: Check for tears, holes, and clean thoroughly; test inflator/dump valves; lubricate zippers.
  • Regulators: Get professional servicing for life-support gear.
  • Mask & Fins: Inspect straps, skirts, and blades for damage; check O-rings.
  • Cylinders: Ensure they’re in test and check valves.
  • Accessories: Check dive lights, knives, snorkels for wear and tear.

Planning & Logistics

  • Book Early: Arrange any dive trips or courses well in advance.
  • Dive Local First: Start with familiar, easy sites to ease back in.
  • Dive Buddy: Coordinate with your dive buddy for training and trips.

By preparing both yourself and your equipment, you’ll be ready to dive safely and confidently as the season kicks off.

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
