Oban – this years last hurrah
The November trip is always the last major trip of the year for TSAC. An extended weekend with Bob on the Gaelic Rose to get in the usual sights and to try and explore some of the less visited dive sites.
Down two people for this trip everyone met at Oban, unusually for the Gaelic Rose as Lochaline has become its berthing point.
On arrival the weather looked ideal, bright skies and calm water, this always gets the dive juices running and the expectation for good diving dives rises.
The first stop was for all 9 divers on the SS Meldon in Loch Buish, a change from the normal starting point followed by a scenic wall dive, Dubh Sgheir in the Firth of Lorne with reasonable visibility. The Gaelic Rose then headed back to the Sound of Mull for the next days diving.
The second day was an early one to catch the slack water, but well worth it for a dive on the Hispania, a wreck that can only be dived when the tide isn’t running. This was followed by a scenic dive in Bloody Bay where Paul Tweedale celebrated his birthday dive.
The final day arrived with dives on the old classic The Thesis and Calve Island to complete the package.
Not a bad tip in all, great diving, good company, good weather, deer on the hills and eagles in the air.
