Fuerteventura ‘take 1’
Having a spare week to fill a few of us decided to head off to do some warm water diving.
We wanted somewhere easy to dive and reasonably cheap to stay. Taking on our DO’s advice and a trip he was running later in the year we decided on Fuerteventura. Four of us headed out staying at a small apartment hotel twenty minutes walk from the dive centre.
The dive centre (Deep Blue dive centre – Deep Blue Diving Fuerteventura – Home (deep-blue-diving.com) ) was based on the sea front harbour and has been purpose built as a dive centre. It has racks and boxes for changing, a reception area, plenty of spare kit carefully stored, a small teaching pool, four boats tied up and a good professional and friendly staff. It also has coffee, soft drinks and beer ready for use.
We planned on five days diving and a night dive on the Wednesday evening, basically two dives per day and an extra one for the night dive.
Diving was simple, kit up in the centre and then load up the boat. the boat headed out to the dive site, we dived and then returned to the centre to change cylinders and repeat.
The dive sites are next to the main dive centre in Caleta de Fuste, they have 18 dive spots on offer with depths of between 7 and 40 metres. The dives were the same routine enter the water and swim down the shot line, we then followed a basic route covering part of the long rock drop off reef and returned to the boat via the shot line. A simple and easy dive. Most dive sites were similar but there is enough interest on each one to make them enjoyable. it meant having to look into the many caves and crevasses but we found shrimps, lobsters, large groupers, many pelagic fish and an angel shark. We also saw octopus, cuttle fish and rays of differing types.
To add to the great diving we finished off the day with a cold beer from the dive centres pump and then walked back to the hotel via the Trafalgar bar and cheesy chips.
Evenings were spent at different restaurants after the traditional dive trip Mojito, we went round the world with Thai, Indian, Steak bar, Spanish (tapas and Paella) and an Irish bar finishing off the evening at Pieros bar.
This was a relaxing and fun dive trip at a great dive centre. Thanks to all involved.
