February quiz night

February quiz night

To start of 2024s social activities our a third quiz was held at the John Alker club.

The usual prizes were on offer, spot prizes for the team, an overall prize for the winning team and the first drink, was, as ever, on the club.

It was great to see a whole selection of people from throughout the club in attendance. Our long standing member down to our newest qualified, new members and a new addition guests of a club member.

The quiz starts with a tie breaker question that all teams have to answer in case of a draw at the end.

Here are the tie questions (answers at the end)

  1. How many times would a chain of all Earths bacteria wrap round the Milky Way?
  2. What is the average distance of the Earth from the Moon in km?
  3. What is the daily interest on Trumps fine, while he appeals his fraud case?
  4. How many degrees per minute does the moon move?

The first rounds are picture questions and this time they consisted of places and bands.

The following rounds are fairly standard now

  • Who said what? – famous quotes form all over.
  • What country? – a question about something unique and the country has to be guessed.
  • Music – A themed round where the start of a song is played, teams have to guess the band, track and theme.
  • Current events – Questions taken straight from the news.
  • General knowledge – could be anything.

Examples of a few questions to try (answers at the end).

  1. How fast was the driver going when issued the first driving ticket?
  2. What year was marmite invented?
  3. What did Japanese women finally join after 1250 years?
  4. Which country had the first UNESCO world heritage site?
  5. ‘Let the wild rumpus start’

I have to confess to forgetting the jokers and I got one question partly wrong (I blame tiredness from the Barbados tirp …….. and I’m sticking to that excuse). However, the question master is always right and I’m also sticking to that one.

This months quiz was nip and tuck with four team coming within six points of each other. Cries of fix came up when, once again the trainees took the win by one point. They obviously need to be beaten!

The winning team

We were also treated to an impromptu dry suit fashion show by Bobby to round the evening off.

Maybe see you at the next one?

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
