Annual club dinner dance and awards night

Annual club dinner dance and awards night

After several rebooking’s and cancellations, we finally got to the have our annual dance. Sadly, we still had a covid cry off, but the Awards night finally happened.

Lisa organised the event and threw herself into the task, finding an excellent venue and organising the decorating and meal. We brought the club banners down, gave out raffle tickets, the DJ arrived, we organised the prizes and the awards and got our first beer from the bar.

Pete (the DJ) had the music in full swing. Most people began arriving at 6:30 for a bit of socialising with everyone arriving by 7and ready to sit down and for the meal and the food arrived.

A starter of soup was followed by chicken and roast spuds finished off with sticky toffee, pudding a good meal.

Following the meal Paula (our club chair) stood up and said a few words and then began the presentation of Awards (now known as the Paul Tweedale trophies!) Paul deservedly won some of the most prestigious awards for all his hard work and dedication this year and Igor, as a novice, has thrown himself into the club’s activities and helped out all year.

The Awards and winners

  • Novice of the year – Igor Michalek
  • Diver of the Year (Graeme Campbell Challenge Cup, committee chosen) – Paul Tweedale
  • Divers Diver of the Year (members vote) – Paul Tweedale
  • Diving Photo of the Year (Tony Rowland Memorial shield) – Paula Garbett
  • Dive Related Photo of the Year (JU shield) – Paula Garbett
  • Best foreign Underwater Photo – Paula Garbett

After the awards we had the raffle prizes including the usual generous donation from Geoff, the owner of Aqualogistics.

The final act before dancing and socialising was the traditional washer and whisky game with Dave Godson officiating. The idea is to get the washer as close to the whisky bottle as possible. The closest wins the whisky, well done to Paul Tweedale, obviously on a roll!

We then got down to the serious business of socialising, dancing and a sharing a few drinks (thanks Lisa for the shots).

Thanks to all who helped organise, set up and dismantle the event.

Don’t forget next years is the 50th anniversary meal, put it in your diary.

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
