Annual Christmas dive

Annual Christmas dive

December 28th rolls around and as usual its time for the annual Christmas dive and meal.

This is a great excuse to shake of the post Christmas malaise, for those that want to dive, and meet up for food and socialising for everyone else.

For a long while we have used Eccleston Delph and a pub nearby, however, it has always seemed a long way to go and an expensive dive for 30 minutes of in water time. With this in mind we chose the Matchstick Man pub next to St Peters Basin in Salford Quays.

Salford Quays has been used several times by the club, most recently by some members who had been asked to rescue discarded electric bikes.

In total nine people decided to dive (with a total of 19 for the meal). We entered via the connecting canal and headed out in two shifts diving in a clockwise direction. Visibility was about 4/6 meters and maximum depths were 8m. The loch served up a selection of life including 11 bikes, a row boat, a couple of electric scooters, one lap top, bollards, fences and the occasional fish.

After diving we made our way over to the Matchstick Man where the day continued with a good meal and great company.

Looks like we have a new venue.

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
