To compliment the recently qualified nine new Boat Handlers, TSAC recently ran a BSAC Chartwork and Position Fixing Skill Development course for its members.
The practical ran over four weeks on club nights at the John Alker Club, followed by two separate groups putting their newfound skills into practice in open-water on one of the club RIBs.
On the 16th June, in horrible weather, plan B had to be put in place and Holyhead Harbour was used instead of Rhosneigr and all six candidates successfully pinged the wreck of the Asmund. whilst learning that electronics soak up attention so keep a good look out, and that transits and bearings are of little use in poor visibility.
The second group of five, had better weather, so much so that wild camping was in order the night before the course and a few dusk / night dives were possible before setting up camp and fire for a lovely evening on the beach near the Kimya with the boat moored safely. Next day, the group successfully pinged the wreck of the Norman Court and the pinnacle at Carreg Goch.
