Mega Training Week

Mega Training Week

At the end of a mammoth week of diver, boat handling and life saver training we wanted to thank all of our instructors and support teams. A huge amount of time and effort goes into the prep and delivery of these things, and often around very busy day jobs. We really appreciate all your support – the progress and skills development this week has been fantastic. Well done to all the students!

Steve B and Neil (with Alf supporting) ran an excellent AED skills development course where we delved into the theory and brought a few Annies back to life with Basic Life Support skills and the AEDs. These are crucial skills that we need to keep practicing so we’d like to do sessions with more members next year.

Today also saw the club gain three new Boat Handlers, well done to Lisa, Jack & Bobby! Using our club boat Nessie, the exercises included launching, reversing, three point turns, speed control, plaining, man overboard, weighing anchor, approaching a shelving shore, ferrygliding, buoy navigation, and knots! An excellent day all thanks to our DO for organising and instructing

Joe did a diving refresher with new member Ros (welcome Ros!) to brush up on Ocean Diver skills. We’ll be doing more OD training over the coming months as we get more try divers hooked!

Boat Handling group 2 did their practical out at Fleetwood with Alf to complete the 2024 BH programme and everyone is now looking forward to getting the boats out more often. Bar one person running over the man overboard and another thinking they were in an episode of Miami Vice, all went well.

Productive TSAC training day at Capernwray today. Working on Dive Leading skills, DO2, DO3, and DO4 lessons completed plus pleasure/kit check dives for Joe and Mark Wood. Thanks to instructors Andy, Simon and Richard, and to Jen for shore cover and homemade gingerbread – and a zip failure was included at no extra charge to see how the DL student coped with a flooded suit.

Special thanks to Jen for shore cover this week, and to both Jen and Richard for their unswerving support and guidance on training this year.

Next up! Monthly dive at Capernwray on 24 November (focus on rescue skills) and 15 December (focus on Buoyancy and Trim).

Please give Lisa, Joe or Alf a shout if you’d like any training or want to come along for a catch up and a dip.

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
