Sound of Mull and Scottish Islands

Sound of Mull and Scottish Islands

This annual Easter trip is one of the clubs most popular.

Any trip on the Gaelic Rose is a good trip as it takes us up to the stunning Sound of Mull and surrounding areas. The scenery is spectacular and the diving is just as good.

This trip is, however, the best of them as rather than a weekend dash we get five days of diving and socialising, with the chance of getting to some of the outer islands.

This years trip had a few new faces and some divers who were looking to extend their diving. This was our clubs Membership Secretary’s first Gaelic Rose trip and her excitement was palpable.

Sadly this year diving was limited to the Sound of Mull and local lochs as the winds and weather prevented the Gaelic Rose from going further. This didn’t stop the diving taking place and everyone still enjoyed the experience.

The social activities focused around food and drink. Large communal meals were followed by a few trips to the local pubs, we managed to find one with live music. Easter was also celebrated in a small way with hot cross buns and mini eggs.

Over the five days 9 dives were completed, some on familiar sites and some on relatively un visited sites. Visibility varied but all dives were enjoyable and provided plenty to see.

We also tailored dives to suit the levels and experience of those people involved. This meant that everyone made the most of the week and the newer divers gained valuable sea diving practice, and most importantly had some great dives

The dive sites were as follows

  1. Auliston Point (11 divers)
  2. Pelican (shallow dives 4 and Calve Island wall 7 divers)
  3. Rondo (10 divers)
  4. Calve Island again (11 divers)
  5. Risca Narrows, Loch Sunart (9 divers)
  6. Flame shell Bed end of Loch Sunart (9 divers)
  7. Bloody Bay (9 divers)
  8. Hispania (8 divers)
  9. West Pier Lochaline (in sound of mull) (8 divers)

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
