Annual Christmas dive and meal

Annual Christmas dive and meal

The annual call had been sent out for divers and socialisers for the annual club Christmas dive and meal on the 28th December.

As usual Steve (our DO) had booked the Cornerhouse pub for lunch only to find out that it had closed it’s doors, so a hasty phone round and we were set up for 1pm in the Original Farmers Arms at Eccleston.

First of all the important part, the dive at Eccleston Delph.

By ten six of us had arrived at Eccleston Delph, this comprised of five divers and our Steve who stood in as the dive manager and acted as shore watch.

The water was a cool 7oC at the surface and dropped to 5/6oC at 16 meters. Visibility was very good with at least 6/7 meters in most areas, particularly those less used.

We took the basic route down the cliff to the fighter plane and through the boat. We then ascended to the 10 meter ledge above the boat and headed anticlockwise back to the plane passing the antiaircraft guns before arriving at the van. We then ascended to about 8 meters along the small cliff heading towards the exit point.

Before exciting we continued past the exit to explore the armoured vehicle and ascended to take our safety stop at five meters swimming back to the finish whilst watching the koi carp as for entertainment.

Having done the requisite 30 minutes we climbed out changed and went to the café for a warming brew heading off to the Original Farmers Arms for a good meal and some socialising with the rest of the club members.

Thanks as ever to Steve Bettison for organising everything.

I have always loved the sea and diving gives me that little bit of extra special interaction. I love diving anywhere and always find sites interesting and an exhilarating activity, constantly enhancing and improving my skills and knowledge. My favourite diving has to be around the British Isles and in particular St Abbs. It has everything, the sea life, the socialising, the history and the thrill. TSAC has opened up many areas and opportunities for me and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. Here’s to the next adventure.
